Film showing: "The Last Atomic Bomb"
August 3rd - 7:00 p.m. Media Education Foundation. The Northampton Committee to Stop the War will be showing a new film by Robert Richter, "The Last Atomic Bomb." Discussion after the film.

Vigil and Speakout in Greenfield
August 4th - 11:00 a.m., Greenfield Town Common. Vigil and speak-out to mark the beginning of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Remembrance Week: a time to honor those who died and suffered due to the U.S. atomic bombing of those Japanese cities on August 6 & 9, 1945; to share thoughts on the human costs of war; and to express visions and strategies for peace with justice in a nuclear-free world. Co-sponsored by the Greenfield Weekly Peace Vigil and the Connecticut Valley Coalition for Women's Lives. Info: Susan Dorazio, 367-9356.

Walk to Remember and Commit to Action
August 7th-9th - Walk led by the New England Peace Pagoda. All are invited to join for any part or all of the walks. Walk details at 367-2202.

Proliferation or Abolition & Hibaku Maria
August 7th - 7:00 p.m. John and Carrie Schuchardt of the House of Peace, Ipswich, MA
John will speak on Proliferation or Abolition: the Leadership of Japan’s Moral Heroes. Carrie will speak on Hibaku Maria: The Bombed Madonna of Nagasaki.

A Survivor Remembers the Nuclear Holocaust
August 9th - 5:30 p.m. Reception. Presentations by Ms. Yuko Nakamura, a hibakusha survivor of the nuclear holocaust of Hiroshima, Secretary General of Kanagawa Atomic Bomb Sufferers Association, Hiratsuka-City, Kanagawa, Japan, and Bal Pinguel, Coordinator of the AFSC Peacebuilding & Demilitarization Program. Location: Westwood Shelter, Look Park, 300 North Main Street, Florence, MA A light meal will be served.


Lantern Floating Ceremony
August 9th - 7:45 p.m. Traditional lantern floating ceremony (children welcome) at Willow Lake, Look Park, Florence, MA, with shakuhachi flute player, Robert Jonas.
