ACTION ALERT - Write Letters to the Editors of the Burlington Free Press and Rutland Herald
We need public pressure on Gov Douglas to ensure that he will not veto the Omnibus Global Warming Energy Bill H 520.
After months of action, a final global warming bill H.520 is about to be voted on by the Senate. This final bill contains provisions to:
* Increase our use of renewable energy so we can replace and shut down Vermont Yankee;
* Expand Efficiency Vermont and increase their funding so they can help Vermonters use less heating oil and electricity;
* Provide tax incentives to Vermonters who build solar, wind power and small hydro-electric generators;
* Pay for all these benefits with revenues from a new tax on Vermont Yankee’s windfall profits.
This important bill will be voted on by the Senate next week, but will face its real challenge in the House later in May. The bill originated in the House, but the Senate has greatly strengthened the bill. And so, once passed by the Senate, the bill will return to the House and need a vote of approval on the good changes made by the Senate. Once the House signs off, the bill can be sent to the governor.
We need to make sure that the Gov knows Vermonters want this bill to pass!
We need you to write letters to the editor-
Burlington Free Press - a simple online form at this link.

Vermont Yankee Die In
Sat, May 5
Noon
Brattleboro, VT
Aside from giving us a false sense of security, sirens located throughout the Brattleboro area are primarily to warn people that a serious accident has occurred at Vt. Yankee. The sirens are always tested on the first Saturday of each month at 12 Noon.
At random locations within earshot of the siren testing at noon in Brattleboro, each person agrees to participate in a die-in protest whenever possible by freezing in place, standing silent or falling down "dead".
For the full 3-5 minute test, people commit each month to stop their activities and reflect on what it would mean if this were not a test but the real thing.
A group will be meeting at 11 am at the Harmony parking lot to walk through downtown and distribute literature and talk with people about what is going to be happening.
