The current incidence, a transformer fire at Indian Point 3, provides an opportunity for flooding the Governor with letters asking for the closure of Indian Point. This was a big campaign issue and now that he has passed his budget, it is time for him to take action on Indian Point. He has to hear from a lot of voters. It has been awhile and I suspect IP has fallen to the bottom of his list of priorties. He needs to hear that we don't need the power, Alternatives are on the rise. We can conserve and become more efficient. The free market is more than capable of filling in gaps.

The studies have been done and the
results are in: We can live without the electricity produced by Indian Point and we cannot continue to live with the risk of radiological releases, not even the low level ones that are supposedly below "regulatory concern". What it takes to close Indian Point is political will. Let Spitzer know that he has a lot of support for this. Maybe it will strengthen his backbone and energize his actions.

Don't be shy and don't worry about being letter perfect or citing all of your sources. Just get something in the mail or e-mail. The gold standard for communicating with a politician is a handwritten note. If you can't bring yourself to do that, use your word processor and do a formal letter. If that is not your style send him an e-mail.

I am going to continue to call for closure, others prefer to call for no relicensing. Many push for the Independent Safety Analysis. What ever your feelings are

JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO SOMETHING!

Here is the contact information:

Governor Eliot Spitzer
State Capitol
Albany, NY 12224

For e-mail:
Visit his web site at www.nygov/governor and find the contact me page.
Posting your letters to the listserv will provide many different
models and inspire others to get something in the mail as well.
